Indiana Federal Criminal Defense Attorneys
Federal Charges Require a Defense Built for Federal Court.
Custom Law represents clients facing federal investigations and prosecutions involving interstate, financial, drug, firearm, and other federal allegations.

Federal Criminal Charges
Federal cases use different procedures, agencies, prosecutors, sentencing rules, and investigative resources than state cases. A matter may enter federal court because conduct allegedly occurred on federal property, involved a federally insured bank, crossed state lines, used phone or internet communications, involved a foreign country, or implicated a federal statute.
State officers may begin an investigation and later transfer it to a federal agency. State and federal authorities may also have concurrent jurisdiction, and separate sovereigns can pursue related charges.
Federal Cases We Defend
- Drug trafficking and large-scale distribution
- Bank, securities, accounting, healthcare, and Social Security fraud
- Wire fraud and interstate financial offenses
- Tax evasion
- Immigration violations
- Federal firearm offenses
- Espionage, terrorism, and national-security allegations
Federal Sentencing Classes
Federal punishment depends on the statute of conviction, offense level, criminal history, enhancements, mandatory minimums, and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines. The source page identifies these broad felony classes:
- Class A: Life imprisonment or death.
- Class B: At least 25 years.
- Class C: 10 to 25 years.
- Class D: Five to 10 years.
- Class E: One to five years.
The page states that federal defendants generally serve at least 85 percent of the imposed sentence. Enhancements can increase exposure, including weapon-related enhancements in offenses such as bank robbery.
Defending a Federal Case
Federal defense may begin before charges, while agents are executing warrants, issuing subpoenas, or requesting an interview. Counsel must assess jurisdiction, search and seizure issues, statements, electronic evidence, financial records, cooperating witnesses, conspiracy allegations, sentencing exposure, and whether state and federal cases overlap.
Our attorneys prepare for negotiations, motions, trial, sentencing, and appeal while requiring the government to prove every element with admissible evidence.
